Chelsea's 1955 season

50 years after Chelsea Football Club was founded they had finally won their first ever trophy. In 1955 Chelsea Football Club, led by Ted Drake and captained by Roy Bentley won Division 1 by beating 20 out of a possible 42 games. They lost 10 and drew 12 games.

Chelsea's highest home attendance was against Wolverhampton on the 9th of April with an impressive 75,043 fans attending their game. This is 33,000 more than what Stamford Bridge can hold. Their lowest attendance at home was 30,239 against Burnley on the 23rd of August 1945. It was their second game of the season and they won the match by 1 goal to nil, scored by Eric Parsons.

The team that Chelsea used to win their last game consisted of 9 English international players and 2 Scottish international players. Their manager, Ted Drake was also English.

The reason as to why the 1945/1955 season is very memorable for both Chelsea, and the fans, is because it was the season where it kicked off their glory, trophy wise. It was the first trophy Chelsea Football Club had won since being formed in 1905. Since the beginning of "The Blues", they have gone on to win an impressive 22 trophies, both in European Competitions and in English Competitions.
